Velvet Set

The Velvet Set has been in our hearts for a long time. This summer, the moment arrived, and we finally shaped it into being. It is a set not meant for everyone. These colors were born while reflecting on our existence on this planet. They embody deep thoughts that help us cherish our time here, in the material world.

This set has also led us to reflect on how we spend our time here. Why did we choose to come to this planet – or was it only coincidence? And even if it was, what is the best way to use this rare possibility: to fight with each other, or to share and enjoy this astonishingly beautiful world together with other humans?

The Velvet Set consists of five colors:

Velvet – a blend of pigments that absorb light, evoking the softness of velvety fabric. It is something we all long to touch, a symbol of aristocracy and abundance. Velvet belongs to special occasions – in our finest dresses, at the opera, in noblewear. Add Velvet to any other color, and it will lend velvety depth. This shade represents our tactile world – perhaps the richest realm of sensing and experiencing life on Earth.

Strawberry Moon – the shining face of velvet. We added pink sparkles, and it became Strawberry Moon. The Moon lifts our gaze to the sky and stirs thoughts of how Earth might appear from above. No single human is visible from there, yet we are each a part of this planet and its fragile ecosystem. We grow by breathing the air of trees and eating what is grown here, until one day we return and become Earth again.

Venus – our nearest planetary neighbor (though Mercury or Mars may claim that role depending on the moment). Venus reminds us that we belong not only to families and societies but to wider systems – planetary, cosmic. Its warmth is something we all crave, and from our reflections, a warm yellow appeared on the mulling slab.

Milky Way – a deep purple-red that unfolds into many shades when touched with brave water. The Milky Way is still within human comprehension, a story we can shape into dimensions and constellations. Yet its grandeur always feels like a fairytale whispered through the night sky.

Eternity – is a color we needed to finish this collection and to open a new door for our minds – something beyond our understanding: no place, no time. No dimensions, no material world. We have this word in our vocabulary, and it is almost the only one – besides “quantum” and a few others – that describes existence beyond materiality and beyond our comprehension. This color has a cool greenish-blue shade and embodies our feeling of eternity.

The palette of five half-pans comes in a tin for six. Please let us know if you would prefer a different tin size. Half-pans also fit other standard watercolor palettes.

These colors blend beautifully with both natural and human-made pigments. For best performance, add a few drops of water a few minutes before painting. This reawakens the pigment and makes it fluid.

All our watercolors are handmade from pure pigments or pigment blends, binders, and essential oils. Our binder is made in-house from gum arabic, natural honey, glycerine, and water. The colors carry a gentle floral fragrance, with lemongrass as the top note and sandalwood as the base.
