Misty wild garden

The misty wild garden collection is our tribute to the wilderness in our gardens — both literally and poetically.  We love the philosophy of wildering and sharing our private property and garden space with wildlife. It means sitting down and reconsidering how much space humans need in their gardens and what we can give back to nature – plants, insects, and small animals. And poetically wild garden means accepting wilderness in your mind and heart. Not fighting with it. Embracing and loving it. Growing together with it and being consciously wild.

All these colors are zinc-based – this gives desired softness, and paleness and makes these colors quite opaque and covering. Just like the mist mutes all colors and awakens emotions that are sleeping during clear times.

Please note – zinc-based watercolors dry unevenly during our summer. We try to mix them during winter, but those that were curing in warmer months might have cracks. Please wake them up as usual and cracks might get filled in your climate. And it can be also that after using perfect half pans they can crack because of dry weather.

Six misty wild garden colors are:

  • Butterfly – light pale yellow

I am Misty Garden Butterfly. A flying subtle light flower. People in Latvia tell the summer by me. If I am the first butterfly they see – summer will be full of joy. I am the symbol of metamorphosis. Most artists know the feeling of being in a cocoon. Or even before feeling like a caterpillar. But deep down inside you know that this stage is necessary to become me – Butterfly. Yet I have a very bad habit – I love cabbages.

  • Peach blossom – soft powder warm pink

And I am the first lady in the garden company. My name is Peach Blossom and I love soft powders & romantic warm pink mornings. I am also very demanding exactly as is growing peach trees in nordic rough climates. Lovely people mixed me and after a few hours, I asked them to redesign by applying color theory. They had to calm me down with some green earth.

  • Mint – light pale green

I am the trendy one. Actually, I am eternal. I am Mint. That fashionable pale green you all missed so much. I am the color of fresh morning tea collected in the dew and then brought inside to make you feel happy, to accompany your watercolor adventures, and start your most amazing day.

  • Flax – light grey blue

My name is Flax. I am the color of Baltic people’s eyes. Pale greyish blue. And the reflection of their souls – turning earth into flowing blue fields, then flowers into threads that make the most unique fabric – linen. It is a favorite material for DeepDeepLight people. They love its wild roughness, the way linen cools during hot summer days and warms on cool evenings. And it is a definite part of their identity. I am so happy I can hug them and all of you.

  • Fly – pale warm brown

I am Fly – warm brown with flocculating black net which allows drawing my delicate wings and eyes without any other color. And by the way – did you know that we flies are actually guarding your food plants in gardens? We attack caterpillars eating your salads, radishes, rocket salads, and other food and wild plants. And some of our species are pollinators as well. So we convinced Daina and Agnese that fly has deserved a place in your misty garden collection.

  • Bat – pale cool brown.

My family is living next to DeepDeepLight under the oak factory. We are indicators of pure and wild nature around. And lovely people are talking about wild garden philosophy a lot. They both have old gardens and their goal is to turn them into tiny ecosystems suitable not only for humans but also for bees, beetles, yes, us – bats, frogs, hedgehogs, and squirrels.

All our watercolors mix nicely with other natural and human-made pigments. For best performance add a few drops of water some minutes before starting to paint. It will reactivate the pigment and will be more fluid.

All our watercolors are handmade from pigment or pigment mixes, binders, and essential oils as conservative. Binder is made by ourselves from gum arabic, natural honey, and water. Our watercolors have a flowery scent, with lemongrass as the top note and sandalwood in the base note.
