I am Green Earth from Verona. When you take green earth from Verona and start mixing, I become mysteriously sea-muddy. I am old. You can find me in Pompeii and ancient Greek and Roman wall paintings. I was used as an undertone for saint faces. Pinks have faded, so now they all are slightly green.

Green Earth also is known as Terre Verte and Verona green, is an inorganic pigment derived from the minerals celadonite and glauconite. Its chemical formula is K[(Al,FeIII),(FeII,Mg](AlSi3,Si4)O10(OH)2.

Green earth is very unusual pigment. It is muddy and very low-staining and highly lightfast at the same time. For those who have got used to human-made pigments, this might seem very pale and hard to work with. With time and getting to know it closer you might fall in love with it because of its peculiar nature. It makes granulating pigments more granulating and clay-type pigments more fluid. It is a perfect companion for nature and botanical artists to create pale flip sides of leaves.

Semi-transparent, non-granulating pale green.  For best performance add a few drops of water some minutes before starting to work with it. It will reactivate the pigment and will be more fluid.

All our watercolours are handmade from pigment or pigment mixes, binder and essential oils as conservative. Binder is made by ourselves from gum arabic, natural honey and water. Our watercolours have a flowery scent, with lemongrass as top note and sandalwood in the base note.
