Colorful tales

Colorful tales is a book we all read as kids in Latvia – one of our greatest poets Imants Ziedonis wrote tales for colors – each with its own amazing story, emotional bouquet, and character. In a sense, this is part of our identity code. And when we decided to put all our darlings in tins by colors, this seemed a perfect match for the name! Even for those who didn’t grow up with colorful tales – each color has its own story and we can think and imagine those stories while painting. Because as Ziedonis said – tales never end.

We have collected all our colors in 5 boxes – yellow, red, green, blue and monochrome. Here you can see one version of them, but please let us know if you want to collect different greens or yellows or reds, because we all feel colors differently – one sees grey, another – green, and someone else – is blue. It is a miracle coded in our geographies, languages, and cultures. Also, seasons play a role, and who will be taking them from our storage boxes. If you want particular colors, please let us know, otherwise, we will allow ourselves a joy of listening to their stories and will collect them by our mood and light.

Here we have sets for 20 and 10 colors in tins with hinged lids, but you are welcome to use these as inspiration and choose any other palette size here.

Mixes nicely with other natural and human-made pigments. For best performance add a few drops of water some minutes before starting to work with it. It will reactivate the pigment and will be more fluid.

All our watercolors are handmade from pigment or pigment mixes, binders, and essential oils as conservative. Binder is made by ourselves from gum arabic, natural honey, and water. Our watercolors have a flowery scent, with lemongrass as top note and sandalwood in the base note.
