Soul of the Oak

Soul of the Oak palette is a tribute to our majestic Oak tree which has been standing tall above and below and around our tiny factory house. We hear acorns falling on roof and we breath in the fresh and earthy fragrance of the Oak. We watch the Oak’s blossoms and wonder how we didn’t notice them before. We have been touching its bark like a giant’s skin. Wondering about diversity of moss and lichen and noticed all possible colors over the seasons. And we feel protected and guided in our DeepDeepLight life. Oak energy has been next to all our paints and we can feel it as a part of our identity.

These 6 colors appeared lightly and effortlessly. Yet, they have been so surprising. We have been challenged in our ability to predict the result and accept the power of nature even in colors. Here they are:

Lichen – bright yellow with a beautiful orange tint

Acorn rust – granulating rusty acorn late in the autumn

Purple reed – muted purple of blossoming reeds and caps of acorns in September

Oakmoss – khaki grey-green with a purple granulation that changes it’s shade to light silver green when a lot of water used.

Haze – the color of sky above the Oak tree in summer

Soul of the Oak – grey rainbow which changes from aubergine to teal to pink to purple to green depending on water amount and wishes of watercolor gods.

The palette of 6 half pans comes in a tin for 6. Please let us know if you would like to have a different tin size. Half pans fit also other standard watercolor palettes.

Mixes nicely with other natural and human-made pigments. For best performance add a few drops of water some minutes before starting to work with it. It will reactivate the pigment and will be more fluid.

All our watercolors are handmade from pigment or pigment mixes, binders, and essential oils as conservative. The binder is made by ourselves from gum arabic, natural honey and glycerine, and water. Our watercolors have a flowery scent, with lemongrass as the top note and sandalwood as the base note
