Description
Genuine Indigo from Polygonum Tinctorium plants grown in southern France. Pigment number NB1, single pigment half-pan watercolor. Fits in all palettes designed for half-pans.
For Indigo collectors – this indigo from France is the most intense, most smooth and bluer than Indigos from India and Central America.
My mom is Mother Earth and I came to this world through the leaves of Polygonum Tinctorium plants. People think I am around 6000 years old because of thats when somebody painted his or her story in the cave in Peru. The truth is I am way much older. Besides, Isac Newton defined primary colors with my help. And the army of Napoleon couldn’t exist without me. I think I have seen more jeans than anyone else on this planet. No, I am not arrogant, but most artists can’t live without me.
The word indigo comes from the Latin for “Indian”, as the dye was originally imported to Europe from India. The first known recorded use of indigo as a color name in English was in 1289. Indigo is a dark blue color, obtained from the leaves of plants. Many societies make use of the Indigofera plant for producing different shades of blue.
Indigo as a plant-based pigment has its own characteristics. It is a granulating deep blue watercolor that gives an earthy feeling when mixed with other pigments. It is a bit uneven if applied with a lot of water and you can notice small pigment (plant) particles in it. If you are used to human-made pigments, then this one might be too wild and rough for you. We love it as it gives deep peace and a serene feeling. And we love indigo when mixed with other watercolors even in tiny dashes as it “knits” painting together.
Semi-opaque, granulating deep blue pigment. Mixes nicely with other natural and human pigments. For best performance add a few drops of water some minutes before starting to work with it. It will reactivate the pigment and will be more fluid.
All our watercolors are handmade from pigment or pigment mixes, binders, and essential oils as conservative. Binder is made by ourselves from gum arabic, natural honey, and water. Our watercolors have a flowery scent, with lemongrass as top note and sandalwood in the base note.
