Caput Mortuum. Pigment number PR101, single pigment half-pan watercolor. Fits in all palettes designed for half-pans.

Imagine drinking hot chocolate on Mars in the middle of falling leaves in autumn… Impossible. But thats who I am. Mars cacao. I am an old pigment. I was the one taking part in cave drawings. And called bloodstone went to war as face decoration for protection. I was called Caput Mortuum. I am the color of the rusted roofs. And I was purple in cardinal dresses and now I am coming back as a powerful partner when artists need live pigment that takes part in the responsibility for created art. I am unpredictable, I am live and old. I am like the mother Earth blood. And impossible as Mars cacao.

Opaque, highly covering dark red pigment. Most intense of all pigments we have. Magnetic, powerful and heavy, which means that when mixed it will settle deeper into the paper while lighter particles might flow. Changes from bright red when wet to dark muted red when dry. Mixes nicely with other natural and human-made pigments. For best performance add a few drops of water some minutes before starting to work with it. It will reactivate the pigment and will be more fluid.

All our watercolors are handmade from pigment or pigment mixes, binders, and essential oils as conservative. Binder is made by ourselves from gum arabic, natural honey, and water. Our watercolors have a flowery scent, with lemongrass as top note and sandalwood in the base note.
